How much media do I consume? I do not know how to even begin to answer that question. Throughout the whole day, everyday, I am constantly consuming media, whether it's ads on Twitter, pop-up ads on apps, or literally anything else. This constant exposure to media effects our lives. We fall susceptible to many ads and end up allowing them to shape our culture and consumption in today's society.
After this semester, I have become aware of the role of media. I now can see an ad, and immediately know what target market they are pitching to and what implicit message they are really trying to sell. I think that now that I can decode ads, they do not effect me as much. I am not saying that I don't necessarily stop buying certain products that I see in advertisements, I now just understand them and can examine them.
I think it is so important to have media literacy. We live in a society flooded with media. Whether its television, apps, or ads. In order to survive in this type of place, you have to understand what the heck is going on all around you. This means that everyone really should have "media literacy" but also be overall educated consumers.
If we don't figure out a way to live in harmony with the media, then it will take over, and everyone will not only have a snuggie, but they will also think that you can get away with using abbreviations like "y" instead of "why" because it's "cool". Like y r u trying 2 sound like a moron?
Anyways, thats all folks. It's been a nice run.
